Breakfast--The Most Important Meal of the Day

I grew up in a home where my mom made sure we did not leave for school without a nutritious breakfast.  As a picky eater, sometimes this was challenging for breakfast foods, but she managed.  Cereals high in sugar were a no-no for sure, yet the others tasted like cardboard to me.  Even as an adult, I wondered why they couldn't make cereals that were not so sugary.  It seemed with cereal (as with many other foods) it is a lot or nothing when it comes to sugar.  And with obesity rising in children today, you can imagine my delight to learn from MyBlogSpark that General Mills announced a commitment to further reduce sugar in cereals advertised to kids under 12.   They are reducin the cereal to single digit grams of sugar per serving. In addition, they have been key nutrients, such as calcium and vitamin D, and providing whole grain.

To this day, I still feel breakfast is the most important meal of the day and there is plenty of research to support that it is.  Cereal is a great way to satisfy your breakfast needs.  It is lower in fat and calories and usually higher in whole grains than other breakfast options.  Read more about the benefits of cereal, HERE
