Review: Sex and the City 2 Soundtrack

Through One2One Network, I had the opportunity to review the new Sex and the City 2 Origninal Soundtrack.  Sex and the City 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack was just released last week and the film opened in theaters May 27th.

Although I have never really followed Sex and the City, I was curious about the soundtrack which boasts some of my favorites artists like Dido, Alicia Keyes and Erykah Badu and then a couple blasts from my past like the remake of Rapture and Cyndi Lauper's True Colors.

After listening to the CD a few times, I have to say, "Wow!  Very interesting!"  I am not going to critique every single song, but I can say over all, I can see this soundtrack becoming a HUGE hit.  There is a wide variety of musical styles, ranging from soul, to dance, to cultural, to choir.  The more I listen to it, the more I like it!

I really was suprised at how Alicia Keys pulled off the Blondie remake of Rapture.  I also love Empire State of Mind where we hear the traditional soulful Alicia Keyes.  Dido's Everything to Lose didn't disappointment me.  It is a catchy tune combined with her beautiful voice.  Although Erakah Badu's Window Seat was nice, I don't feel it is as good as some of her previous work.

Some songs I found interesting were Natacha Atlas' Kidda and Michael McGregor Euphrates Dream with Arabic influences.  I have always enjoyed the mystique of Mid-Eastern music.

Liza Minnelli really surprised me with a dancy cover of Beyonce's Single Ladies.   This is club music, but I love the catchy words, "If you like it, then you should have put a ring on it!"  I think all single ladies will appreciate this song!

Really, I could do without the I am Woman version by the Sex in the City Stars as well as the songs by the Sex and the City Men's Choir.  Not that they are bad, but just not my particular tastes, even though I love the song Sunrise, Sunset.   I just won't be downloading these to my iPod.

Overall, this is a great soundtrack and I am sure we will be hearing it a lot on the airwaves!  It has actually made me interested in seeing the movie.
