Your Top 10 Creative and Affordable Vacation Ideas

Twittermoms and Toyota have teamed up to ask mommy bloggers what their top ten creative and affordable vacation ideas are.  With the economy the way it is today, people are looking for clever ideas to have a fun vacation.  In my opinion, vacations don't always have to be expensive.
  1. Instead of going on weekends when hotel rates are higher, why not plan a trip during the week?  Another advantage is that traffic on your trip will be lighter and places will be less crowded than weekends.
  2. Renting an inexpensive cabin in the woods can be a lot of fun.  Nature is a perfect, free playground for children.  You can pack a cooler full of food and not have to spend money eating out.
  3. Check out http://www.factorytoursusa.com/ and plan a FREE factory tour.  There are all sorts of factories that provide free tours.  Don't see one you want to go to on the list?  Just contact the factory and see if they can give you one.
  4. Kids love the outdoors--why not try hiking at a nearby state park?  Also, any state parks offer swimming at beaches, canoe rentals, etc. which are all pretty reasonable.
  5. Do a "family reunion" round.  Go visit and stay with family members in different cities (make sure not to over stay visits).
  6. Get with friends and camp out.  It is inexpensive and the kids will love it!  Once again, pack a cooler full of food!
  7. Get with another family or two to rent a large cabin or beach house.  You may not have as much privacy, but the cost will be much less and your kids will have built in playmates!
  8. Do you have a zoo or museum membership?  If so, check to see if other zoos or museums will honor your membership away from home.  Sometimes they offer free admission or 50% off admissions.  We have visited many other places for free.
  9. Car trips are cheaper than flying, but if you need to fly, book your flights Tuesday through Thursday for better fares.
  10. Check out various sites when planning a trip, such as Travelocity, Trip Advisor, etc.  You may find one with much better rates.
