Everyone seems to be complaining of the heat and humidity.  I am not.  Even though I think it is hot and I sweat just like everyone else, I would gladly have this over winter weather.  Reports say it will be hot through October but I have no complaints!  Summer is my favorite season.

Summer brings about such delicious fruits and vegetables.  Corn doesn't get any fresher than when you pick it out of the garden.  I love not having to run to the store for fresh vegetables a couple times a week.  It is a lot easier to go out my back door and pick my choice for dinner--beans, zucchini, squash, okra, or corn.  I have plenty of cucumbers to can pickles and an abundance of tomatoes.  As we get our fill of tomatoes, I will start making sauce to freeze.  Blueberry season is over but next week will bring our first melons.

I am saddened because my favorite time of the year has passed.  You know, the days where it is still light at 9pm.  I love that time of the evening.  The birds are singing their night songs and the temperatures are comfortable.  Canning and freezing help me to preserve a bit of summer to have in the dreary days of winter when I can start planning my garden for next year.

As for now, I need to go pick dinner!
