Teachers Make a Difference--And Can Get FREE Greeting Cards!

One of the most important lessons I learned in life came from my first grade teacher.  I attended a Catholic school and my teacher was Sister Melinda.  I was assigned to read at mass.  That morning, I woke with a stomach ache and scared to death to read in front of all those people.  I tried to pretend I was sick, but my mother quickly saw through my facade and sent me on to school, encouraging me to just tell the teacher I was too scared to read at mass.  I was very worried she would be upset with me, as there were no other students who had practiced, but she hugged me and said, "Don't worry, maybe you will want to read another time."  She found someone else to read, but her response to me was one that made all the difference.  Her loving response encouraged me to want to read next time, and to not give up.  Of course, I loved her so much, I did read at mass and since, have never had problems with public speaking.  I often wondered if she had showed any signs of irritation or stress, how I would have felt.  She definately shaped my life and taught me that a little bit of love goes a long way!
