Book Review: City On Our Knees by TobyMac

TobyMac’s City on Our Knees is a quick read filled with stories of inspiration. In TobyMac’s own words, it is, “…stories that show what life can look like when people step out in courage and in love, and strengthen the family of God.” The stories range from a child with cancer who starts a lemonade stand to raise money for cancer research to hope in Haiti. The stories are interlaced with biblical and other quotes, prayers, and one minute remixes of the previous chapters.

I especially liked the quotes and prayers that TobyMac chose. The quotes remind readers that God is nearby and inspire readers to take action to help their fellow man. As a Catholic, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of references to Catholic prayers, quotes and Catholic historical figures. TobyMac really does seem to want to unite people everywhere and to take a stand to make a difference.

I personally am not very familiar with TobyMac’s music, but understand it is very appealing to young people. That being said, I think TobyMac has the ability to especially reach out to young people with this book, but readers of all ages are sure to enjoy and be inspired by all the stories in this book.
