Sleepless in KY

It was one of those nights.  My oldest daughter woke up last night from a bad dream at 3:30am.  Then the other one cried out a bit later.  Just a few minutes after that, I heard my oldest daughter crying.  She couldn't get back to sleep because the dream still scared her.  As a child, I often had bad dreams and I remember very well those scary feelings so I sat with her a bit.  I finally went back to bed and read till 5am.  I tried to sleep, but to no avail. I was awake.

Funny thing, or maybe not so funny, is just last night around midnight I just completed an online course on insomnia.  It seems as if I am in stage 4 or REM sleep and get woken, I really have trouble telling my brain to go back to sleep.  And of course, that is exactly where I was at at 3:30am.  Had she woken earlier or later, I would still be warm and snug in my bed.

Needless to say, I finally got out of bed at 5:30 and am amazed at what all I have been able to accomplish in this hour of completely uninterrupted time with no noise but from the furnace, which I had to crank up as it was very chilly in the house.  License renewal (which required digging up a password I haven't used in 2 years), cleaning, paperwork, filing...

And now I am off to shower and bake muffins before the girls get up.  Let's just hope that I can make it through the day on 3 hours of sleep!
