Dial Healthier You Diary: Today's Update

Well, today wasn't the best of days.  I was feeling rather lazy and a tad under the weather.  Instead of fitness, I worked on trying to clear some toys out of the house to make room for the new ones.  However, my eating was pretty good.  Whole grain cereal and a double serving of fruit for breakfast.  I also had four servings of vegetables over the rest of the day.  I actually read on the Dial Healthier You website that you should try to target 10 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.  So, if you count the glass of 100% juice I had, I got seven.  Not quite 10, but not bad.  Really, if you do have 10 fruits and vegetables a day, you'd eat a lot less of the unhealthy stuff, so I am really going to target that.  I try to sneak in extra vegetables in when I can

The site also talked about the importance of getting 7-8 hours of sleep a night.  I have been doing pretty good at that and last night, got a full 8 hours of sleep.

Yesterday's dinner was good, too.  Salad with olives, flaxseed and chick peas and homemade lentil soup with carrots.  Of course, I am using olive oil wherever I can, in dressings, cooking, etc.

I will have to say, I started to implement these a few weeks prior to Christmas and I really think I do look better, plus, I lost a few pounds!  I noticed in pictures from Christmas that my facial skin seemed to look more like it did when I was younger--sort of a natural glow.  Also, it has been less oily the past few weeks.  I really wish I had known some of these "secrets" growing up because I had problems with acne and hated it.  It has been really nice to have younger looking skin, too, as I am nearly 45 and aging was beginning to take a toll on my face.  You can even see how healthy my skin looks in this photo with my niece, who is twenty years younger than me (I am on the left):
