Book Review: Life Promises for Success

I will have to admit, I got this book at the wrong time.  I received Life Promises for Success—promises from God on achieving your best by Jim Tressel right as the media was having a hay day about Tressel violating a NCAA rule.  As a Buckeye fan, I was sorely disappointed in Jim.  I didn’t even want to read this book any longer and it sat night after night on my bedside stand, waiting to be opened.  But a promise is a promise and I knew I had to pick it up in order to do the review.  The book itself is divided up into three parts:  The Essence of Success, The Elements of Success and The Epitome of Success.

Disgusted as I was, I couldn’t help but to really get into the book from the start.  Tressel delivers great short stories (usually one paragraph) or tidbits from others coupled with powerful biblical verses on each two page spread.  He also includes many inspirational quotes from others.  I found this book inspiring, moving and just loved all the biblical quotes he chose.  I found some biblical quotes were redundant, but that didn’t bother me because I felt these messages were worth reading over and over.  This is a nice book to pick up and read a quote or two or a page or two and take something from it.

If you want a nice, inspirational book, whether a Buckeye/Tressel Fan or not, football fan or not, this will fit the bill.  I plan to keep it in my favorite reading room (you know, the small one with facilities) for a quick bit of inspiration throughout the day.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.  Give Tressel’s book a chance!

Disclosure:  I was provided a copy of this book by Tyndale Publishing at no charge. This review contains my honest opinions.
