Tip of the Day: Saving Money in the Kitchen--The Dishwasher

Here is a quick tip to save money and energy.  When running your dishwasher, first, only run full loads.  Next,  make sure the heat option is off and select the light load.  This cycle will do a good job cleaning your dishes, unless you have a very heavy baked on load.  Also, turn of the dry cycle.  Instead, when the wash cycle is done, open the door to let the steam out, then close it back up and let it set a while before unloading.

Also, think smaller dishes.  If you don't need a big plate, opt for the smaller one.  That way, you will fit more in your dishwasher.  If you make a lot of pasta, think about getting a strainer that is flat and lays on the edge of a pot.  It is a huge space saver in the dishwasher.
