Great Summer Getaways for Kids #GreatGetaways

Summer.  As kids, it is what we long for all school year.  Kids just can’t wait for summer break.  They look forward to no school, swimming, watermelon, lemonade, fireworks, and of course, vacation.  Summer vacations are very memorable events for children.

Alamo has teamed up with Social Moms to ask bloggers about five summer getaways that every kid should experience.  I have lots of thoughts on this.  Read on, and see if you agree.

A camping trip or cabin in the woods is awesome.  I really think that every child should experience the great outdoors.  They should be able to experience hiking in the woods, exploring nature, sticking their feet in creek beds and catching crawdads, fishing, seeing the stars in the dark sky, and enjoying s’mores by the campfire while telling tall tales.  I really think this is one getaway that every child should experience in their life.

A trip to the beach is another wonderful getaway for children.  To experience sand between your toes while waves lap around your legs is so much fun.  Collecting seashells and building sandcastles is fun for everyone!  The beach provides all day entertainment for children.  They can learn so much about marine life as well as play in the sand.  Just make sure to use plenty of sunscreen.

Another great getaway would be going to America’s capitol, Washington DC.  I think all American children need to see the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument as well as visit the Smithsonian.  A trip to Washington’s homestead, Mt. Vernon, is also quite interesting.  Children can understand what it was like living in the time of our first president.  I went when I was a kid and loved it!

Traveling out west to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park is another getaway that should not be overlooked.  Visiting these parks can give children a sense of awe about their world.  They also learn about different terrains in their country as well as many different types of wildlife.

Of course, I can’t overlook Disney World or Disney Land.  With all the magic that Disney provides, it is fun for children of all ages and even the adults.  This is a place where dreams can come true.  Filled with favorite characters, plenty of rides, culture, music, and more, everyone is sure to have a wonderful time.

Of course, there are quite a few other places that come to mind, but these stood out the most.  What are your favorite getaways that you think are important for kids to experience?
