Review: Coconut Drink

GNC is carrying a new product—Phenom Coconut Water.   This is 100% coconut water enhanced with GNC vitamins and minerals.  They offer 4 types:
  • Phenom Hydro with added electrolytes
  • Phenom Energy with electrolytes, multivamins and energizing ingredients (comes in Lemon Mojito and Acai Peach flavors)
  • Phenom Mega V with electrolytes and multivitamins (comes in Pure, Pineapple Punch and Orange Guava Passion flavors)
  • Phenom Antiox with antioxidants, electrolytes, multivitamins and vitamin C (comes in Blueberry Pomme flavor)

These coconut drinks are designed to replace electrolytes when working out to prevent hydration.  As taken from the GNC website: Coconut water helps to re-hydrate and replenish the 5 electrolytes you have in your body: potassium, calcium, sodium, phosphorous, and magnesium. In fact, coconut water is isotonic with your blood; therefore, it is sometimes used as a plasma substitute in extreme emergencies.  You can read more about the benefits of coconut water on their website.  They even claim it is the best thing for a hangover!
This product is 100% natural, has no fat, no cholesterol, no added sugar and only has 45 calories per serving.

I tried the following flavors:  pure, Acai Peach, Orange Guava Passion and Blueberry Pomme.  I can’t say that I am a big fan of coconut, so it is no surprise that I didn’t care much for the pure.  However, the flavored ones, especially the Blueberry Pomme, where not bad.  I love that there is no added sugar and knowing that drinking it is doing my body good.  I also love the packaging—instead of plastic bottles, these are in 2-serving cartons that will break down.

Disclosure:  I received 4 cartons of Phenom to test for this post and will receive a GNC gift card for making this post.  This review contains my honest opinions.
