Words You Never Want to Hear About Your Best Friend

Easter Saturday I received a phone call from my good friend and former boss.  Not surprising since he knew I was going to be in the town near where he lived and had left him a Facebook message.  We chatted for a few minutes and then he said, "Are you sitting down?"  He asked that a couple times and while answering, I had thoughts like he and his wife are too old to tell me she is pregnant, what is he going to tell me that I need to be sitting down for?

And then he uttered words that made no sense to me.  "Chris was murdered last night."  Chris?  Murdered?  What?  The words took a bit to sink in.  And then the realization hit along with a pain from inside that is indescribable.  (The story that followed is awful but due to the fact that there could really be two victims here, I will not be sharing at this time.)

Never in my wildest imagination would I have dreamed a friend of mine would be murdered.  I am white, middle-class America and so is he.  He is not into drugs.  He lives a wholesome, good life.  It is all very surreal and at this point I am not good about getting the words out, but I am sure I will be sharing some more in the weeks to come.

But for now, I ask my readers to please pray, not only for the family, but for Chris' entire community as he was well-known, loved and respected for helping others where he lived.

Ann, as you already know, my heart is saddened by your friend's untimely death. I know this is a difficult thing for all to deal with, especially those whose lives Chris touched with his compassion for others. My heart goes out to the entire community at this time. HUGs to you dear friend.
