Elf on the Shelf--I Caved!

I had heard about the The Elf on the Shelf a few years ago.  If you are not familiar with the Elf on the Shelf, it is a little Elf that Santa sends to watch the children. It reports back to Santa every night and upon its return, it moves to a different spot.  It seemed fun and like something the girls would love, but as a homeschooling mom, I had more on my plate than I could handle, so I made the decision that this was NOT something I was going to do.  Being completely burnt out by the end of the day, I knew I would never remember to move the darn thing every night, disappointing the girls.

Then, last year, I read People I Want to Punch in the Throat post about the Over Achieving Elf Mommies, which completely reaffirmed my decision that I did not want or need this little Elf in my house driving me crazy.  (If you haven't read it, it is hysterical--along with all the comments below the post.)

I put my kids in school this year.  Big mistake.  My six-year old came home one day and said, "Mommy, the one thing I really want for Christmas second after the iPod Touch is an Elf on the Shelf."  Damn that kid who told her about the Elf on the Shelf!  There is no way she is getting the iPod Touch from me or even from Santa and now she tells me the thing she wants most next to that is the Elf on the Shelf?

I caved.

And now that booger sits on my desk grinning at me while I write this.

LOL. I just heard about this last year and my kids are a little too old for it now but I totally would have done it.
