Wrapping Your Head Around the Cloud--Understanding the Cloud

A few years ago, I would have told you a cloud was just something up there in the sky.  Now I know differently.  The cloud is remote computing that is becoming more and more popular   It simply means that your computer files are not on your computer--they are on a large, commercial data storage server somewhere out there (in a cloud, maybe?).

Uses for a cloud can be varied.  Storing your files on a cloud can make it easier to get them from your smart phone or tablet that is internet connected.  Having cloud access allows you to do more without needing a large amount of storage, which is perfect for phones and tablets.  You may want store photos or music on the cloud.  That way, if your computer crashes, you don't lose everything.  You may want to upload work files on the cloud so you can access them at home.  Or maybe colleagues upload files to share.  You might want to use it to back up your computer.

Some applications for cloud services are free, some charge you.  Just look around and see what is right for you.

This is good. My husband talks about cloud all the time, but this helps to make more sense of it.
