Lost in Color--Hiking and More in O'Bannon Woods, Corydon Indiana #hiking

Last October, we camped (or rather "glamped") at O'Bannon Woods State Park (formerly Wyandotte Woods State Recreation Area) in Corydon, Indiana.  This is located in the Harrison Crawford State forest.  The park offers nice hiking, swimming, fishing, nature center and a pioneer village with a restored, working haypress barn.  The Blue River flows through the part and forest.

As far as the campground goes, it feels like you are in the woods.  I don't think I have ever seen so many trees in a state park campground!  It is heavily wooded.  If you arrive a night, be warned, if the campground is empty, it is VERY dark there.  We had trouble finding our site as most sites do not have numbers displayed on posts.  The site numbers are on the electric boxes.  The second time we visited, the campground was nearly full so it was easier to get around at night.

We were there the second weekend in October and the woods were at the beginning of peak season.  The colors were absolutely amazing!

We enjoyed the Pioneer Village and Haypress.  There are many weekends where they have scheduled activities.  We also loved the Nature Center, which is next to the Pioneer Village.

We hiked the Cliff Dweller trail.  Once you hike down the cliff, you can explore the dry creekbed for flint.  We found several pieces of flint that the naturalist told us Native Americans or early pioneers had napped.  We also found some pottery chips from Native Americans and pioneers.

We also spent some time on the Nature Preserve Trail.  It was a very easy hike, although at one point, it was hard to find the trail.  The scenery was beautiful!

O'Bannon Woods State Park,

We went this past summer, too, and enjoyed their beautiful pool.  We even spied Santa taking a break from the North Pole!
