Family Movie: The Snow Queen #DVD #Family

I received a complimentary copy of Snow Queen to facilitate this review.

The movie Snow Queen is an enchanting adaptation of the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale with the same title.  This 1-hour long BBC production featuring blue screen cinematography with live actors and computer generated images takes you to a magical world of make believe.

The story itself is one of love and friendship where a young girl does the impossible to save her friend who was captured by the snow queen.  Themes include kindness, perseverance, faith, courage, love and undying friendship.

This was definitely an interesting film to watch.  The storyline, naturally, is classic.  However, the cinematography really made this film stand out as being unique and draws viewers in.  Bonus features include the Making of the Snow Queen, Blue Peter Program on Hans Christian Andersen's Life, and Director's Commentary with Julian Gibbs.  We really enjoyed watching how the film was made and learning about Hans Christian Andersen's life.

With fascinating cinematography and a great story line, this is a good family film that lends itself to great discussion.  It is, however, rated PG and parts may be scary for young children.

DVD SRP$19.98 US / $24.98 CAN
