- Make sure your battery is fully charged and/or you have a backup battery (also charged) especially if you will be taking any video. Video wipes the battery. I can't tell you the number of times I have messed up, thinking that my battery was almost fully charged and I would be okay. Three or four shots later, no juice!
- Memory card, memory card, memory card. You pop them out to download pictures on the computer. And guess what, a week later, you grab your camera bag and head out...only to discover no memory card. Keep an extra one in your camera bag.
- Check your memory card(s) to make sure you have enough space for more photos on them. Nothing like missing the moment so you can delete old pictures.

The Three Most Important Things When Taking Your Camera Along
I have written in the past how to take good photos, but I failed to mention the three most important things to remember when taking your camera along.
I have one last tip. If you will be shooting outdoors where you may not have access to shelter (e.g. in the middle of the woods miles away from civilization), make sure you have a waterproof bag or carry a ziploc bag with you to protect your camera if a storm sneaks up on you! (
Not that this has ever happened to me.)
